Volunteering for W&D RDA

Volunteering and Fundraising for W&D RDA - Children riding on 3 horses

Our Volunteers are part of a lively team of helpers, who all play a vital part in making Worstead and District RDA a successful and vibrant part of the local community.

We are looking for volunteers to join our friendly team, and help us provide riding for adults and children. We ride weekly on Tuesday mornings in term time, at the Squirrel Wood Equestrian Centre.

Volunteers are needed for the following activities:

  • One person to lead the horse, and check that it is behaving well.
  • Up to two side walkers to liaise with the rider, help them with exercises requested by the Instructor, and to check that they are safe and comfortable.
  • Helpers to set out the props and lesson equipment in the arena, and clear away afterwards.
  • Help with paperwork.
  • We would also greatly appreciate anyone with a keen interest and knowledge of fundraising, website administration and secretarial skills.

No experience necessary. Training is given so no experience is necessary – but liking people and horses will help! Some of the riders are nervous to start but, with patience and time, go on to ride horses with confidence.

Overall, it’s a highly rewarding experience for both riders and Volunteers alike!

Some paperwork is required. All Volunteers are initially required to complete an Application Form. Then, if they wish to continue – and become a ‘regular’ – a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS; previously known as a CRB) check has to be made. The cost for this will be paid for by the RDA.

Our Volunteer Leaders and Side-Helpers – and our Instructors – work closely as a team, and all of us are continually learning new and better ways of helping our disabled riders to get the most out of their sessions, build their confidence – and have fun too!
